MALAYALAM CINEMA

'Jeevitha Nowka', which was made in 1951 broke all the previous box-office records. It screened continuously for 284 days in Trivandrum city. K. Vembu was the director of this film and produced by Koshi and Kunchcko under the banner of K and K Productions. The veteran actor Shri Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair (late) became famous through this film.

Mr. Sathyan (late) who was an Inspector of Police introduced in to film 'Atman Sakhi' for the first time in 1952 and Mr. Premnazeer (late) in 'Marumakal'. The fifties witnessed many changes in Indian cinema. The trend of making films based on famous novels began in 1954 with the film 'Neelakkuyil' by Chandrathara Productions, taken from 'Uroobe's (Mr. P.C. Kttikrishnan) famous novel. 'Neelakkuyil' brought up a new group of creative youngsters in this field, including the directors like Shri.P Bhaskaran and Shri.Ramu Karyattu.

'News Paper Boy' is the first realistic Malayalam movie, which was released 1955. This 'down to earth' film by Mr. P Ramdas was conspicuous by its simplicity. The influence of Malayalam literature on Malayalam cinema became increasingly visible in sixties and many films made upon famous novels, short stories and even poems like 'Karuna' and 'Ramanan"

Mr. P. Bhaskaran went a long way by directing the film 'Rarichan Enna Powran'. The most outstanding film of Mr. P. Bhaskaran was 'Iruttinte Aathmavu' (Soul of Darkness) a short story by world famous writer Mr. M.T. Vasudevan Nair. Shri. Bhaskaran had made many of MT's stories in to films. Mr. MT had changed the concept of screenplays. His famous screenplays are as follows.

Murapennu, Pakalkinavu, Iruttinte Atmavu, Nizhalattam, Olavum Theeravum, Kuttiyettathi, Oppol, Mappusakshi, Vithukal, Manju, Vaarikuzhi, Neelathamara, Aaroodam, Edavazhiyele Poocha, Bandhanam, NagrameNandi, Panchagni, Oru Vadakkan Veera Gadha, Nakhashathangal, Kadavu, Thrishna, Valarthu Mrigangal, Amritham Gamaya, Perunthachan, Anubandham, Sukritham, Nirmalayam, Sadayam, Parinayam, Yennu Swantham Janakikutty, Asuravitthu, Thazhvaram, Uyarangalil, Daya, Aksharangal, Aalkoottathil Thaniye, Vilkkanundu Swapnangal, Vysali, Utharam, Kochuthemmadi, Adiyozhukkukal, Venalkinavukal
