The state has a unicameral legislature. The Legislative Assembly has 141 members.

Mr. R.L. Bhatia is the Governor and Mr. Ommen Chandy is the current Chief Minister of the sate . Present government is lead by Indian National Congress and the front is known as United Democratic Front (UDF). Oppostion is lead by CPI(M) and they are preparing to return to power when the elections will be held in 18 months time. According to the current dvelopment they have got every chance to come to power. Current government has messed up every thing and even common people knows that they are protective to certain group and communities and they can do what ever they like.
